Intro to Art: Level I

Syllabus

We will meet in Rm 325 on a daily basis unless otherwise indicated. Please arrive on time to my class, based on your roster assignment. You can schedule a appointment with me to discuss your work, before or after school,  at least one day in advance.

Course Objective

Intro to Art: Level I will begin with the basics of visual art: the art elements and principles to build a rich vocabulary in visual literacy. We will explore a variety of art techniques and learn about visual artists from across the centuries, from a multitude of cultures and regions. Our creative focus is based on questioning: why does an artist make art, how does the artist make choices, what is creativity, etc. This questioning philosophy develops the deep critical thinking skills required in the 21st century. Cross curricular activites will emphasize skills across the student's education spectrum.

Field Trips

We will go out into Philadelphia on at least two field trips during the school year to local museums, art institutes or colleges. Trip slips will be made available, but it is the responsibility of the student to return the forms completed in a timely manner.
